One of the best small conventions that I tried out last year was calling Geek Con & at a library in Downtown Oklahoma City It was a OK at best for a first time convention that was being held at a library & did seem to me that it was going to be better for the next time that is was going to held.
Man it did surprise me. That when I got throw the door to see that they had a few vendors on the first floor of the library & I just know that they were not going to keep the amount of space that they used last year. I just small amount of hope that there was going to be a lot more to see there & I was right. There was a lot of new vendors that had a lot of good arts & crafts that I thought was just a nice feel to the all the fandoms that the convention was aiming for & just like activates that was going on there. Which some of them are standard for all the conventions that I going to. You got panels, face painting, artist & some other conventions that are in the area. I was a bit shocked to that even with two different areas of the event. There was a bit of a empty feel the event on the side panels. I couldn't find out what the topic, room that was taking place at or what time it was happening at? This don't happen to me last year. I guess that some of the panels were just put together near the last few days before the event? I don't know the facts as of now, but I hope that next year they can work on that small misstep. Will I still recommend this for others that like a good free one day event? Yes I do. It shows that any size of a convention can make you feel happy that there are a fan of one or many fandoms. To me this years event was a good show, but it was a bit of a let down on the volume of panels that was not there. I was hope to do more thing there, but it was not as good of a show for this year. I guess that I was so hoped to see so much more & got to excited for this years event. So for now on I'll try to just take it year by year. So that I don't get so hyped that I'm bored for future events. Just to be fair I will be going to next years Geek Con to see if I can have a better time to see if I was having a bad day or something. I'm just being open about that & hopefully I can be as fair as I can be on my reviews. You I never thought that I will say this. but the Sonic movie trailer was a very bad first impression for many so many levels. Now I was a bit hyped for it. After the first poster was released & the creepy liking long legs of Sonic. Did make me question a few of the designs of the rest of the character will look like in any trailers that we will be seeing in the coming months. To be completely open with you all. I never expect to see the abomination that we got from the first trailer.
First thing that I like to get off my chest is the bad design of Sonic. It just looks like a ruff draft of the character. At best it looks like a child in a custom at best & just looks wrong to me. Yet it could of been a lot better in the end. If somebody was doing there research & called out that something is not right here. The second thing that people have a problem is that there is no music from any of the games at all, but they did put "Gangster Paradise" in the trailer. Which is still a good song, but not for a kids movie if you ask me. Final thing that I have to say that is on everyone's mind. Can Jim Carry be the only one to carry this B grade of a movie to the top of the Box Offices in the theaters in November? All we got to do is to wait & see till then. I just hope that with all the major backlash that some of the creators of the Sonic franchise do throw in their two cents on how that a iconic character needs to look like. Yes Sonic is an iconic video game character for many years & still is. Minus the fact that his games for the past decade have been OKAY to very bad & there was not been a new game for years. So do I think that this movie will fail? I don't think that it will fail to the level of some video game movies, but I think that. We do a have very good chance to see what happens when you a video game company & a movie company can do together after a major blow back from fans that can help you out to see what went wrong with your project. Now I didn't expect to see anyone that worked on the movie to come out with a very positive message to those that was not happy with the trailer. I was glad that we were not called names, had a very replied to the fans & do have hope that changes will make the movie better in the end. Will I go see it? As of now maybe, but if the changes are good enough that I think that I will drop my money on. Then Yes I will go see it. I support anything that gives out positive vibes & don't lets the cast attack the fan base. If you ask me. This is the way that studios should be responding to their customers & not be calling them names, Telling them "If they don't like it. Then don't buy it." or attacking them for what ever reasons. For me I just can't wait to see the resign version of Sonic in the next trailer before the release of the movie, but only time will tell. For the past few years. I got into comics for one of many reasons. The biggest one was the fact was that there was a lot of great stories that had great characters in them & sense then I really got into a great world of fandom that is still a great place to talk about them in pubic.
That all changed around 2016. We started to hear that some of the writers & artist were starting to put some of there politics into the story. Some fans did see that the story was mirroring the real world & was not very happy at all. Some of the comic books industry biggest names took to social media & start to attack their fans by calling them & tell them not to buy their comics that they were working on. then the sell numbers took bit of a hit in the sells of the comics. I'm not going to say that the writing is on the wall & we need something better. The one thing that a still new to the fandom of comics. I think that is just a small part of the problem that we all have been seeing for the last few years & don't really see that we can do to much about it. There also have been many other problems that has been pointed out by many of the people including myself that read the comics & seems that these companies are not see the ones that are printing them. That there is a big push in the identity politics in the comics as of late & it has been a blow to the comic book industry. Can the comic book industry survive another market crash? If they keep going down this road & think that it will still make money? No I don't think so. I just like to read a good comic & escape the world that we live in for the time reading my comics. Not have to see how much a character is like a person or group that they hate in the real world. Is there a way to show the big name talent what we like? Yes there is. By supporting indie comics. I'm talking about the comics that we see it conventions, crowd founding site, on personal website & the best one yet. What comics that are friends are getting a hold of. Now let me explain that last opinion a bit. If you got a friend that is a big comic book fan & they got a comic that they think that you my like to check out. You ask to read a bit of it & you liked it so much that you go to the internet, look for the comic book that your friend got. place your order & in no time. You got the same comic as your friend. There is a lot of great stories that comics can tell. Yes there a few that can be very good or bad, but I really do think that we need to quit pushing a motive that is killing a once golden industry to the hell that we can get out of. If we just tell good stories with great characters & that is all we need in any great comic book. |
