Yesterday President Donald Trump made some comments that he like to see that social media site to be reclassify public forums & not have section 230 protections that they currently have right now. I don't always agree with some of the things that Trump says, but I see why he thinks that social media need to be more of a forum then an editor to the content that we post on the sites.
Do I think that Trump is crazy yes sometime he is a bit out of his mind & does need to tune down his views a bit. I do think that we need to have a bit more freedom when it come to some of these tech companies that do show which way they lean when it come to politics & how they enforce there rules or Terms of Services that they have on there platforms.
If this gets them to shape up there rules & start enforcing the rules equally. To a person that see to many people that keep pushing the limits of the Terms of Services & don't get in any trouble or banned from the site.
The that I understand the section 230 protections are some kind of legal protection from liability for these tech companies & I don't see why they need to have liability protection. Yeah I do understand why some companies need to have some liability protection, but not social media sites. They can do better without it.
Personally I don't completely know that this could be all talk for now or just a stunt from Trump. If this dose happen I think that we could see a big change on the way that all social media sites are run. Now if this is all just talk for now. I like to see how much that site will go to shut down this idea.
I personally just like to see social media sites just stop making bad chooses on try to limit on what is good or bad for us. There has been a lot of stupid changes that make them look so bad that I'm been thinking about jumping ship to another site that loves open minded people & don't like to hide good content that is not that easy to make. With all the rules not being clear or not being part of the Terms of Service in the first place.
We need all need to make are stance very clear to the social media sites once & for all. For the past few years we have seen site play favorites to what ever side that the head of the companies believe in personally. I can play a game without knowing the rules of the game. We to know what the rules are. So we can know what is OK to talk about & not getting trouble.
There needs to more transparent on what we can & can't do on the site. Without seeing the rules & knowing that we are breaking them. We need to know the lay of the land so we can see it grow in he right way.
